All day, everyone has been grouchy because it's rubbish and rainy. Pah! BOO! Hiss! I say to them! Y'see, I love Autumn. More than any other time of year. So much that I was doing that "I'm in a fun silly mood" thing this evening and wondering around the supermarket giggling to myself about nothing and looking a bit crazy. Which means I fit in more at my local Asda than I ever have. But Autumn makes me happy. For these reasons:
- Well, it's not cold. Is it? Go outside right now. It's actually not cold. Spring, is mostly cold. You know it's going to get warmer, but it takes its bloody time about it. Most of autumn is still quite warm. But just in case you wrap up warmer. That's what is known as 'cosy'.
- It smells nice. Right now, it smells of rain, and rain smells lovely. A bit later on, it'll smell of Halloween and then a bit after that it'll smell of mulled wine and bonfire. And those roasted nut things on Southbank. All of those are really really really good smells.
- My birthday is in Autumn. November 12th should you wish to buy me a present. I like books. And kittens. And castles too.
- It's kinda nearly Christmas but not near enough for Selfridges to be ramming it down your throat all month. Instead, they do very clever silvery window displays which are a bit Christmassy, but not annoyingly so. They're pretty.
- Switching the heating on day :-)
- Blankets, hot water bottles and cosy things. I like all of these things. They make sitting on the sofa much more fun. Plenty of opportunity for under the blanket mischief, which leads to all sorts of sexy-funtimes too.
- Hot chocolate! It becomes an occasion when it gets colder. Like "ooh! I know! Hot chocolate! That'll make the world brilliant!" then you mutter to nearby house dwellers and cats and anyone who'll listen "I'm having hot chocolate" with a great big grin on your face. A frappucino does not have the same effect. The cat does not care about your frappucino.
- I'm wearing my purple tights and they're BRILLIANT. You can't wear funny coloured tights any other time of year.
- In fact, jewel colours look better in winter, and they really suit me. I think I'm better dressed in Autumn.
- Curling up in a country pub, after a brisk walk. Drinking beer and sitting by a fire, with a cute dog that *always seems to be there whenever you go to the country* - do they hire them in just for added cuteness or something?
- Coming in from the cold. Getting home from work, and coming home to a cosy house is all sorts of brilliant. So is watching the rain and listening to it as you drift off to sleep.
- ALSO: Crunchy Leaves. I like those too.
See? Autumn ain't so bad after all, is it?
