Take me travelling... in Europe

It's been all very serious over here recently, hasn't it? Blah blah boring serious not fun things. So, instead of being serious (it's a bank holiday for goodness sake), I'm having a little bit of a dream about places I'd like to go and nose about in. Being dreamy is fun. Being dreamy with a freshly brewed cuppa on a long weekend is more fun.

I'm kicking off with Europe. The rest of the world is pretty big. I might need more time for dreaming...

Galway.

I've wanted to go to Galway ever since meeting a very handsome boy on holiday when I was 14. He told me it was the most beautiful place in the world. I totally believed him. And looking at that photo, it's pretty convincing. Turns out you can get cheap flights to Shannon and then hop on a bus to the coast. As soon as I've got a free week, and £100 in my back pocket, I'll be here, writing stories on Galway Bay.

Croatia

It's not just Croatia that I'm a bit obsessed by (cobbledy streets, little secluded bays, sneaky passageways, we've met, right?) It's all the little private islands dotted about the place. That you can rent for €100 a week. Seriously. A week. I'm waiting until May, otherwise I'll be shivery.

Portmeirion

I've been to an awful lot of Wales. My parents live there, holidays were always here when I was a kid. But Portmeirion has always appealed. It's the coloured houses that do it for me.

Athens

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Greek mythology. Still am, a little bit. I love the stories that seemed magical, but entirely believable as well. The story of Hecate and how the seasons came about was always my favourite. Some people thing that once you've seen one crumbling building you've seen them all, but I reckon that it's a little bit different in Athens.

Anywhere else? Of course. Provence, the Lake District, Cornwall, Iceland, Verona... all sorts of places I'm dreaming about. Might hop on a train soon, see where I end up.

I can highly recommend the Aran Islands (particularly Inishmore). Much like Galway, but very tiny and islandy, and kind of the Ireland that you always imagine, all ridiculously green hills and mini stone walls.

Delightful!

Cinqueterre in Italy - you would love the craggy villages and hidden bays. Can walk all 5 villages in a day or so if you push it. Or maybe the Dordogne region in France?

I'm off to Croatia on Sunday - its still 25 degrees there today (30 last week) so im hoping for some sun. Athens is amazing, a great city to visit not just for the history.

Oh I do love me a craggy village and a nice view! Hopefully I'll get to all of these places soon.

Pleasantly surprised to find I've been to three out of four! (Not to Wales, hoping to make it back to the UK later this year.)

I lived in Galway for awhile and YES OH YES, it is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Here's another vote for the Aran Islands, although Inis Mor is touristy enough that you really should get to the other two for the full experience. There's an awesome knitwear factory on Inis Meain and great pubs on Inis Oirr!
